I disagree with the advice to call your creditors. They don't care at all. I was an excellent credit consumer for 17 years and got sick with a serious neuromuscular disease that totally and permanently disabled me. I was willing to pay a small payment to my creditors for the rest of my life, but they didnt' want that. They told me there was NOTHING they could do for me when I called to discuss my situation. They raised my interest rates - in some cases by 10% or more. They refused to take smaller payments. So I defaulted on all of my credit cards, have never paid anything on the debt and never will. I have no assets and no income other than SSDI. In 7 years I will begin to rebuild my credit - but honestly my credit is irrelevant - as I am totally and permanently disabled and rely on others to take care of all of my needs.
