Indiana Flood Victim's Information on Stolen Laptop
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is alerting approximately 50 flood victims in Gary, Hammond, Highland, Griffith and Munster, Indiana that a laptop containing their personal information has been stolen from a housing inspector's car.
The laptop stored Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers and other personal information of people who had applied for federal disaster assistance. Hopefully filing for bankruptcy will not be necessary for any of these individuals in the aftermath of a federal disaster.
Idaho National Laboratory Employees at Risk of Identity Theft
Idaho's Congressional Delegation has announced a potential identity theft threat that could affect 59,000 present and former employees of the Idaho National Laboratory at Idaho Falls.
An encoded disc that contained the employees' personal data has been either lost or stolen while in transit via United Parcel Service (UPS). The original packaging, which was shipped from New York to Maryland, was damaged and the disc is still missing.
Patients' Personal Information Stolen in Ohio
A bag containing the personal information of patients at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio was stolen during a car break-in.
The information included patient identification numbers, names, addresses and dates of birth, and in some cases, the Social Security numbers of the patients and type of treatment they received.
Approximately 242 patient records are now missing. Home-health nurses are meeting with all patients who were affected in the data breach and the hospital will provide free identity theft protection services and free professional credit restoration services to these patients.
